JAY HELPS HOWARTH GO GREEN
5 August 2011
The leading independent merchants Howarth Timber & Building Supplies has created a new role to reflect the company’s strategy of encouraging customers to go ‘green’.
Jay Pickup, who is based at the company’s Rochdale branch, has been appointed Howarth’s national Sustainability Development Manager. His brief is to respond to the market’s increasing demands for environmentally efficient construction, which is being driven by government legislation aimed at dramatic reductions in the UK’s carbon footprint.
One of Jay’s first initiatives will be the establishment of the Howarth Greenhouse, a demonstration and training facility being planned at the company’s Rochdale branch. Aimed at both staff and customers, the facility will be a showcase for environmentally focussed products and solutions, and will be offered to other industry organisations to help them develop green strategies.
“Quite rightly, sustainability is a theme that now runs throughout the construction sector,” said Jay. “A business the size and significance of Howarth Timber & Building Supplies should be leading the way and, through my appointment and a number of other plans we intend to unveil shortly, this is precisely what we are doing.”
Jay joined Howarth Timber & Building Supplies three years ago, when he embarked on Howarth’s structured training programme. His promotion to Sustainability Development Manager is a reflection of Howarth’s commitment to developing colleagues to their full potential.
