Durisol benefits
Proven use
Durisol UK manufactures reinforced and insulated walling systems made from a cement/PFA (purified fire ash)-bonded, recycled softwood material. The end product achieves excellent thermal, acoustic and fire protection properties.
Cost-effective building solution
Cost can be measured in a number of ways, but taking purely material and labour costs, the Durisol Walling System can offer up to 30% cost saving** on a traditional brick and block masonry construction.
Speed
Construction times are decreased with build times of 3m2 per person, per hour expected as a minimum without specially skilled labour and can easily reach levels of 10m2 per person, per hour for an experienced and organised builder on a simple design.
Excellent U values
Two of the four sizes available come with mineral wool insulation already incorporated into the walling block with the D365 (365mm wide) giving a standard U value of 0.19. It is possible to replace the mineral wool with a Phenolic foam insulation and this would instantly lower the U value to 0.15.
Sustainable, green construction
Durisol is made from recycled timber having already passed its useful life and forms the major part of a sustainable product.
Excellent acoustic properties
Whether designing a semi-detached, terraced housing or a school, acoustics will be an important consideration and the Durisol system can offer dB rating with a minimum of 55dB, up to 63dB† for our thicker unit.
Interior and exterior finishes
Durisol surfaces can be coated with one-coat renders and one-coat interior plaster directly to the surface - examples includes Parex Monerex one-coat render and Parexbric one-coat lime interior plaster.
Fire & flood benefits
Due to the 'mineralisation' process that the timber chips go through, the product will not rot or burn. At a fire test in December 2008, a filled Durisol wall was subjected to a flame temperature of 1100 deg C for 4 hours without structural failure. Durisol is also an effective and quick to install flood retaining barrier. Durisol is not adversely effected if submerged for long periods in flood situations.
Party walls
Using Durisol as an interior party wall exceeds Building Regulations. Not only is it an excellent fire stop, but when used without insulation the Durisol blocks carry a decibel rating of up to 63dB†. They can also create a structural spine throughout the building allowing solid fixing for stairs, lifts and floors etc. Because of its solid construction it allows for services, i.e electrics, to be installed within the materials surface, meaning that Durisol complies with Party Wall Building Regulations unlike traditional construction methods within this particular application.
Retaining walls
Durisol is exceptional for use as a structural retaining wall. One advantage is the ease of installation where access is restricted. Due to its inherent water resistant properties other uses include below ground basements, garden and landscape retaining walls and even swimming pools.
Foundations
Durisol blocks can be used to form below ground strip concrete foundations. They can also be used for forming foundations for concrete rafts.
