NEW INSULATION MANAGER GIVES A BOOST TO BARNSLEY’S BUILDERS

21/05/2008

Barnsley’s Howarth Timber & Building Supplies branch on Stocks Lane has further expanded its areas of expertise by appointing a specialist insulation manager.

Alex Hirst, 34, from Skelmanthorpe, joins the business to help builders and homeowners with all insulation issues, including how to make properties more thermally and acoustically efficient, comply with government legislation, and reduce their consumption of energy.

Alex has specialised in construction and insulation throughout his professional life and offers a wealth of knowledge to Howarth’s customers. “Building regulations continue to tighten, and the targets for thermal and acoustic insulation are ever more stringent,” Mr Hirst said. “As the government’s drive for more efficient buildings continues apace, Howarth Timber & Building Supplies is offering this new service to help ensure builders can comply.

“Similarly, the recently introduced Home Information Packs (HIPS) mean that homeowners are striving towards better insulated homes, the results of which can translate into significantly increased sale prices,” added Alex. “Howarth can now help them achieve this.”

Mr Hirst’s appointment follows the recent completion of a £1.5m refurbishment and expansion of Howarth Timber & Building Supplies site in Barnsley. A well-stocked door and window mezzanine showroom has been added, and there is vastly improved parking for cars and collection vehicles. The company has doubled its product offering, and has introduced comprehensive ranges of heavy side products - bricks, blocks, sands and cements.

“We’re very proud of our new facilities here, and Howarth’s investment underlines the strong commitment we’ve had to both the town and to its builders since 1974,” added branch manager David Lomas. “We recognise there has been some upheaval over the last 18 months, but our customers have been very loyal and we’re now heading for record sales performances – which certainly justifies our decision to expand!”
