INCREASED SALES SUPPORT HOWARTH’S INVESTMENT

26/08/2008

Howarth Timber in York, which has recently completed a £300,000 upgrade in facilities and expanded stock, is matching its investment by reporting significant increases in both DIY and trade sales.

In figures just released for its latest trading quarter, the branch is enjoying increased turnover. Collection trade is up by 10% whilst sales of shop products, for example tools and hardware, have increased by 24%.

The store on Leeman Road, which has been trading in the city for 40 years, has just added a broad range of building materials to its offering, meaning customers now benefit from a one-stop shop for both timber and heavyside products.

Recent improvements at the site include better yard access, warehousing and storage of substantially increased ranges of plasterboards, acoustic flooring, roof products and insulation materials. Alongside its comprehensive timber ranges are machining and wood treatment facilities, and the branch now stocks bricks, blocks, lintels and drainage goods and a comprehensive array of complementary building products.

External improvements are matched by enhanced displays internally for solid, engineered and laminate flooring, doors and fully featured kitchen units.

“Clearly, the house building market is now depressed, but the spend by local builders and DIY customers is sustained,” said branch manager Kevin Withers. “This gave us the confidence to expand and, now that these improvements are complete, our business and our customers are enjoying the benefits.”
