MP CONGRATULATES LOCAL COMPANY FOR INVESTMENT

20/07/2009

Burnley’s MP has congratulated Howarth Timber & Building Supplies on its commitment to the town. The encouragement came as Kitty Ussher toured Howarth’s recently completed £¼m storage facility at its branch on Pratt Street, which now accommodates the stocking of even greater ranges of timber and building products.

Alongside the new shed, Howarth has also invested in a £40,000 Combi-Lift guided forklift truck, which facilitates the accurate placement of sheets materials and so helps prevent stock damage.

“This investment helps secure the jobs of 12 people,” said Kitty Ussher. “It’s good to see a local company confidently investing in the town despite the difficult times, and so Howarth Timber & Building Supplies has my congratulations.”

The new storage shed houses an additional half-mile of racking for vulnerable stock, such as specialist plasterboard and insulation products.

“Building legislation means an increased demand for new ranges of environmentally friendly products, and with that carries a need to store them in a clean and dry facility,” said branch manager Martin Nauman. “But alongside this, this investment means we’re making a very clear statement to local joiners, builders and DIY enthusiasts – that Howarth is here to stay and that, despite difficult trading conditions, we are looking to the future.”

Howarth Timber & Building Supplies is part of the Howarth Timber Group, the UK’s largest privately owned timber companies. The business encompasses a network of timber and builders’ merchant branches, Howarth Windows & Doors and Howarth Timber Engineering.
