The recently appointed new manager at Howarth Timber & Building Supplies’ branch in Newcastle says he is determined to weather the storm in the construction industry and ensure the business is ready to capitalise on future growth.
That’s the aim of Gavin Heath, 38, who has returned to take over the reins at the timber and builders’ merchant on Barracks Road. Gavin used to work at the branch 10 years ago, leaving as assistant manager with responsibility for sales so that he could broaden his experience in the industry. He’s now back, occupying the manager’s chair, and is renewing his acquaintances with many customers who have remained loyal to the branch.
“It’s no secret that the construction market is experiencing pressures at the moment, but undoubtedly Howarth is enjoying unprecedented support from the region’s builders, joiners and DIY customers,” said Gavin. “With the right mix of products on our shelves and in our sheds, we’re perfectly poised to capitalise when the markets grow once again.”
Howarth Timber & Building Supplies serves a broad range of customers, from individuals looking to improve their homes, to small builders and large contractors. With ever increasing legislation affecting the construction trade, the branch is stocking greater ranges of products such as insulation materials to meet emerging demands.
“I have notched up many years’ service in the industry, the last decade of which have been with Howarth’s competitors,” added Gavin. “I returned to Howarth so I could be in a hands-on role and closer to customers. Equally, my colleagues here are very experienced and are happy to share their knowledge.”
