HOWARTH MANAGERS LAUNCH SPONSORSHIP YEAR BY WALKING THE WALL

Two senior managers from Howarth Timber & Building Supplies are planning a trip of a lifetime that will make wishes come true for children in the region with life threatening illnesses.

Mark Terry and Jason Rothwell are making final preparations to walk the equivalent of a marathon for each of six days, trekking across the Great Wall of China from Huangyaguan to Juyongguan in the north east of the country. The pair hope to raise several thousand pounds for ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’, a UK charity that helps sick children’s dreams become reality.

The venture is part of Howarth Timber & Building Supplies’ adoption of the charity which, over 12 months, has been designed to generate enough money to ensure many more children’s dreams can come true.

“So far, we’ve topped £6,000 for the walk alone, and donations from Howarth’s customers and suppliers and our family and friends are still coming in,” said Mark. “What’s more, Howarth has promised to add the equivalent of our salaries to the total, which will give a final boost to the bottom line.”

Previously, When You Wish Upon a Star has made a whole range of dreams come true for children throughout the UK, including meeting celebrities, driving Formula One racing cars, playing alongside Premiership footballers and taking the trip to Lapland to meet Santa.

Unanimously, colleagues at Howarth Timber & Building Supplies chose to adopt the charity this financial year, and they’re hoping their efforts in persuading customers and suppliers to donate will lead to happy faces on more vulnerable children.

“My son has a disability, and so I know at firsthand the joy that can be experienced by young people who, through a twist of fate, face many unique challenges every day with great courage,” said Jason.

In China, the Howarth duo are expecting temperatures of more than 30 degrees and high humidity, conditions that will add to the arduous journey of more than 160 miles.

“I’m expecting to lose a stone in weight, whilst the only fourteen pounds Jason will lose will be out of his wallet!” said Mark.
