Door care and maintenance
Timber is a hygroscopic material (that is it naturally attracts and releases water from its structure dependent on the surrounding conditions). Due to this your door will, prior to any surface treatment being applied, take up any excess moisture which it becomes exposed to. It is therefore important that doors are not hung in situations where excessive moisture is present – i.e whilst plastering is still wet.
It is also important that prior to installation all faces, sides, edges and any cut-outs of the door are also coated to completely seal the door from ingress of moisture.
Doors need to be stored in a dry flat place and again should not be left stood up or in positions which would put stress upon them - failure to do this will cause doors to bow or twist. The rooms should already be dry prior to hanging as if excessive moisture is or has been present the doors may shrink.
We also recommend that at least three top coats are applied to the sealer to ensure that your doors stay good longer.
Part E Building Regulations compliancy
All arbordor pre-finished flush and panel fire doors, excluding the Sketch Veneer, Louis and Riviera Six Light doors, fully comply with the latest Part E Building Regulations relating to sound reduction requirements for flats, apartment entrances and other relevant public areas when used with an appropriate acoustic intumescent strip and automatic drop seal fitted to the bottom of the door. Further details on request.
Part M Building Regulations compliancy
Building Regulations Part M requires wider doors and thresholds with reduced heights for disabled access. The arbordor pre-finished flush and panel door ranges offer various size doors – 926 x 2040, 864 x 1981, 914 x 1981 - to meet these requirements.
