Solid Wood Flooring General Fitting Tips

All materials need to be on site for a minimum of 7 days prior to installation to allow them to acclimatise. Floors with over 2mm undulation over a 2m run should be levelled before installation. We recommend that, to allow for natural movement of the floor, at least a 15mm expansion gap is left around all edges. Floors which are in excess of 10m long should generally be divided by an expansion gap, and if running between different rooms should be split at the door/room entrance by a floor to floor threshold which will allow for the different rates of room expansion. We do not recommend the use of solid wood flooring below dpc levels in cellar conditions due to the adverse effects caused by contraction or expansion.

Please follow the manufacturer’s recommended details for under floor heating and large area installations prior to fitting of your flooring. Damp proofing membranes should be used on concrete floors. We also recommend that, for a quality installation that will last, only stainless steel fixings are used with solid hardwood floorings, especially when fitting oak flooring which contains chemicals that will eventually corrode the more traditional galvanised fittings and which can also cause black spots to form.

To keep your floor looking as good as new never allow flooding / wet mopping / contact with excessive amounts of water plus always read and follow the manufacturer’s fitting and aftercare instructions.
