What are Filling Knives?
Filling Knives are a tool used by Decorators to fill cracks and holes in walls using a compound such as putty. The Knife is typically used to spread out the product, creating a smooth surface that is easy to paint over – when dry.
A Filling Knife ultimately serves the same purpose as a Taping Knife, however whilst Taping Knives have a larger flat surface and are designed to offer good coverage, Filling Knives tend to be slimmer. This makes them more suitable for precision-based work, which is ideal for smaller holes or cracks, as well as for areas that are awkward.
A filling knife should also be used to widen a crack before applying the compound, to help the product adhere better. Using a wet filling knife will help to smooth the product properly.
