Richard Burbidge's high-quality newel base is suitable for adding an intermediate newel post (required if your stairs are longer than 2400mm). It's possible to use this to replace your existing newel, but double-check first because most newel posts at the bottom and top of your stairs are structurally important. If you're unsure, seek expert help.
