How much is composite decking?

Trex composite deck boards range in price and warranty from £33.40 (inc VAT) to £90.14 (inc VAT). The affordability of our composite products depends on the grade chosen. As with many things in life, you get what you pay for. Initially, Trex decking and railing does cost more, board for board, than timber decking and railing; however, the payoff you get over time in decreased maintenance costs and increased leisure time provides compelling value - so much so, that Trex decks are sometimes referenced in the listings of homes for sale as an indicator of quality and value that homeowners and real estate agents use when selling a home. Of course, the true value is in the time that you spend outdoors on your Trex deck. Trex have three different ranges to suit all budgets: TrexEnhance Basics ***, Trex Enhance Neutrals****, and Trex Transcend *****. If you were to compare Trex composite decking to Timber decking, (where the cost of timber decking boards depends on the type of wood) softwood decking is considerably cheaper than both hardwood decking and most composite decking options. Hardwood decking is closer in price to composite decking.

Is composite decking slippery?

Composite deck boards are actually more slip resistant than timber decking and is an advantage of purchasing composite decking. The slip resistance is determined primarily by the texture of the deck board’s finish (grooved boards). However, there is no such thing as 100% non-slip decking of any material.

What is composite decking made of?

Trex composite decking is often referred to as recycled plastic decking as it is made from 95% recycled materials, including reclaimed timber and sawdust as well as recycled plastic from many common household items. This includes items such as the plastic overwrap on packaging for paper towels and toilet paper, dry cleaner bags, newspaper bags, grocery and shopping bags. Trex annually salvages and keeps more than 400 million pounds of plastic and timber scrap out of landfills. In fact, the average 500-square-foot composite Trex deck contains 140,000 recycled plastic bags.

How long does composite decking last?

Is composite decking waterproof?

Water can be very dangerous to timber decking; water seeps into tiny cracks and crevices, expands, and then the wood dries out. This causes it to shrink, and cracks and splits can form. Composite decking does not absorb water, it sits on top therefore resistant to these effects. However, it is not technically waterproof as it could not be fully submerged in water, and prolonged pools of water can cause staining and damage to the substructure. Trex Protect Joist Tape and Trex Protect Beam Tape can help to waterproof your deck. Nevertheless, Trex composite decking is perfectly suitable to be fitted around a swimming pool / hot tub because Trex installation requires a 5mm gap in-between the boards which acts as a natural drainage system.
