Mitre Boxes & Blocks

Mitre Boxes & Blocks

Mitre Boxes and Blocks and basic devices that are used to cut wood with precision. Slits are cut into the edges of the box or block to allow for both straight and precise angled cuts. These slits are designed to guide a saw to ensure perfect lines are cut.

What is the difference between a Mitre Box and a Mitre Block?
Mitre Boxes are designed to cut wood of a specific size, and the Box would be purchased with a specific size in mind. Although they are generally used for cutting lengths of wood, some boxes have extended ends to allow for square cutting.

Mitre Blocks are different, because whilst Mitre Box have guides on both sides, a Mitre Block only has one side. These are particularly useful for cutting picture frame joints, as the Block allows you to cut at 45 degree and 90 degree angles.
