There is a lot of confusion about what the difference is between a Bolt and a Screw, because they do look very alike. In reality, there is no recognised “standard” distinction between the two despite various attempts. However, in Layman’s terms, the difference is typically down to how they fasten:
- A Bolt is fastened by a Nut that secures it into place
- A Screw is fastened by whatever it is being inserted into, and is typically used in holes that have been assembled specifically for the Screw.
At Howarth Timber & Building Supplies, we offer a variety of different Bolts, including:
- Square Hex
- Threaded Rods
