This timber is classified as UC4 treated, meaning these softwood sleepers are not only ideal for outdoor use, but it is also suitable for direct contact with the ground. UC2 & UC3u are not treated for ground contact, always use UC4 treated timber.

It's no secret that UC4 treated softwood is the best choice for timber garden products. The treatment process involves kiln drying the timber down to around 28% moisture content before treatment, allowing it to penetrate deep into the wood. Without this intense kiln drying, water in the timber will prevent as much treatment getting into the material which makes it unsuitable for garden use.
