Hardwood

Why should you choose hardwood over softwood or MDF alternatives?

  • Durability: Hardwood timber comes from slower growing trees than softwood, producing a more complex makeup which is naturally stronger and durable enough to be a long-lasting solution that can handle knocks and scrapes. It is particularly desirable in homes with pets and/or children.
  • Environmentally friendly & sustainable: Hardwood timber derives from a natural and renewable source. It has a low carbon footprint where production uses less energy than the production process of other materials. The lengthy growth process of the trees pulls toxic co2 gases out of the atmosphere and stores them. All our high-quality hardwood timbers are purchased from sustainable sources.
  • Weather resistant: Hardwood is the perfect choice for external applications such as timber cladding boards and weather bars for exterior doors, due to its strong resilience against the elements. It can also be used to clad interior walls in rooms with high levels of moisture, such as bathrooms or changing rooms.
  • Aesthetically pleasing: The slow-growing pace of hardwood allows for a more complex grain structure to develop with a typically deeper and richer colour than softwoods. This gives the timber an attractive appearance which looks great in both modern and traditional homes.
  • Strengthens fastenings: Hardwood has a better hold of fastenings such as nails in comparison to alternatives such as MDF which can loosen over time. Hardwood is a reliable timber choice.
  • Low Maintenance: As a tough and durable material, hardwood requires very little in terms of maintenance, as most minor damage is subtle to the eye.

What is hardwood?

Hardwood is manufactured from slow-growing trees, often giving them a higher density than softwoods. Hardwood timber is durable, weather resistant, low maintenance, and easy to work with, making it the preferred choice for applications that require an aesthetically pleasing finish as well as strength. Hardwood timber is commonly used for cladding, and mouldings including skirting and architrave due to its suitability for a decorative finish.
