Thermostatic valve head goes on top of the valve body, and then as the room temperature changes, the valve head expands, adjusting a pin in the valve body so that it opens or closes.

Next, release the stored pressure, then open the old valve on the flow pipe. Once the thermostatic valve or manual is open, release the pressure, drain the radiator and remove the old thermostatic valve. Finally, you can attach the new thermostatic valve or manual valve, remove the old lockshield valve, and connect the new lockshield valve to finish.
