Carpenters pencils are an oblong section which can be sharpened to a chisel shaped edge. This eliminates the tendency of a pointed pencil to follow the grain. they are available in three grades: Green which is hard are is suitable for hardwoods, brickwork and plastered walls, Red which is medium and is suitable for general carpentry and blue which is soft and suitable for softwoods and newly felled timber.
