What is Scotia Beading?

Scotia beading is a type of floor trim used to hide the expansion gap between your flooring and the wall. It fits neatly along the edge of the room and works alongside skirting boards, so you won’t need to remove them when installing new flooring. The result is a clean, polished look that adds a professional touch to your space.

We offer a wide range of scotia trim options, including two popular types:

  • Quick-Step Scotia Beading – This trim is designed to match specific laminate flooring for a smooth, subtle border. White scotia flooring is especially popular for its bright, modern appearance. It’s also durable and highly water-resistant, making it a great fit for busy households and modern interiors.
  • MDF and Solid Oak Scotia Trim – A stylish choice for those who want to match their floor edging with other wood mouldings in the home. These trims offer a classic finish and remain an affordable and decorative option.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much scotia beading do I need?
To calculate how much beading you need, measure the linear metres needed (run the tape measure around the outside of your room), and divide that number by the size of the beading. For example, if you have 20 metres to cover, you will need 11 pieces of 1.83m scotia beading.
How to fit scotia beading?
To fit scotia beading, first measure and cut the trim to size using a mitre saw for neat corner joints. Apply adhesive or small nails to secure it to the skirting board (not the floor, to allow for expansion). Press the beading firmly in place and wipe away excess adhesive. For a seamless finish, use decorators' caulk to fill any gaps and match the trim to your décor if needed.
