Sealants

Sealants are used when you are looking to create a waterproof or airproof seal. Also knows as silicone sealants or mastics, they can be used for both internal or external applications, minimising any passing of water or air into an area.

Applied using a sealant gun, the sealant fills any gaps to leave a smooth finish and when dried can be sanded or painted over.

If you're not sure which type of sealant you require, ask our friendly team at your local branch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you paint over silicone sealant?
Silicone sealant is a durable and long-lasting variety that seals and waterproofs. Its drawback is that paint will not stick to it. However, it is possible to paint over silicone caulk.
Can you put sealant on top of sealant?
We do not recommend putting new sealant on top of old sealant as it poses a risk of leakages.
What removes silicone sealant?
Sealant remover, a soft cloth, a razor or utility knife, and a scouring pad would help to remove your silicone sealant efficiently.
How to apply silicone sealant.
To apply silicone sealant, start by evaluating the project. Think about what you need to do, what you’d like the finished job to look like and what kind of tools and sealant you need. Once you’ve picked the right tools and you’ve got everything you need, you can start preparing the area. This means that you need to ensure that the area is free of dirt and grime, removing any leftover old sealant, and making sure that the entire area is clear ready for when you get started. Then, you can start applying the sealant, although, depending on the type of sealant you use, there are lots of different ways to apply it. You may need a sealant gun, or the sealant that comes in a tube so you can apply it directly. Once you’ve applied the sealant, smooth it out by using either your finger or a sealant smoothing tool, then make sure to leave it to dry for the time specified by the instructions.
