External Doors

At Howarth, we have a fantastic range of external doors and door sets that will help to create a fantastic first impression for yourself and guests. We have a wide range of styles in varying timbers that will beautifully compliment your home, whether you are wanting a more traditional look or something a little more modern.

Essentially, external doors and door sets need to be stronger and more resilient to outside invaders, such as the elements (wind, rain, UV rays), and potential intruders. They also have very different needs to internal ones, as not only do they need to allow you access in to and out off of your property, but they also protect it, offer privacy, and create a first impression for the building. We offer a wide range of door options, in contemporary and traditional styles.

Our glazed external door options range from full glazed panels to small windows, and most external doors are frosted so that you still have some privacy. Because of this, consider where the door will be placed. For example, a door that is placed inside a bricked porch is likely to need less protection from the effects of weathering, as one that goes straight onto the street or driveway.

Our wide range of Glazed Doors will brighten up even the darkest home with the benefit of natural sunlight. Unglazed options are available, but we recommend obscure glazing for optimal privacy for your home.

Our external fire door range offers you both safety and style all in one. They will keep a fire at bay, preventing it from progressing through the threshold.

Our French Doors are classic and will look absolutely stunning with most decors. Polish, wax, and oil should not be used on exterior doors, as they are not able to seal it.

We also offer external wooden doors and bifold doors, which are widely popular and are efficient and durable.

Taking care of your external doors right from the beginning will help to prolong its overall lifespan. Care should be taken as to where the door is stored prior to being installed. You should ensure that all finishing products, including paints and stains, are available before timber doors are hung.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can external doors open outwards?
Yes, exterior doors will open outwards.
How to treat external oak doors?
To treat external oak doors, start by putting on your safety gear - goggles prevent sawdust from getting into your eyes. Then, open all windows in your working area for ventilation. After that, cover any glazing or door hardware with masking tape to ensure that it’s not damaged in the process. Buff over any uneven areas with a sanding pad and wipe away any dust with a microfibre cloth to ensure the surface is clear. Check that the wood door is clean, dry, and free from any damp and moisture. After that, begin applying the treatment evenly and try to follow the direction of the door fibres. Check that you’ve treated every bit of wood - including any spaces such as inside the lock and letterbox cut outs, along the top and bottom edges, and even behind the hinges. Ensure that both sides of the door are treated and at the same time to maintain an even moisture content throughout the full thickness of the door. Once done, leave the treatment to dry.
How much does an external door cost?
To install an external door would usually costs anywhere from £100-£175, and an external door itself would usually cost around £200.
