How to choose the right ladder

Loss of stability is one of the most common causes of accidents when operating at a height. This is the result of using the incorrect ladder; one that is too short or inadequate for the activity, thus picking the right ladder is crucial for safety.

The four key elements listed below will assist you in selecting the best ladder for the task.

Height

When choosing a ladder for the task, keep in mind the height you'll be working at and the maximum height you can safely reach. To avoid overreaching, we recommend choosing a ladder that is somewhat taller than you will need and following the ladder's instructions for safe use. Our Werner Step Ladder is highly effective at ensuring that you can reach the desired height while being safe at the same time.

Our recommended safe working height is based on a person's average reach height when standing at the maximum recommended safe climb/standing height of 1.75m. The diagrams show the maximum recommended standing heights for various types of ladders.

Applications

Always make sure you're using the right type of ladder for the job. Where appropriate, our Werner ladders must comply with the new EN131 standard, with a weight capability of 150kg.

You must utilise ladders that have been tested for Professional Use with a weight capacity of 150kg if you are planning to use them for business reasons. If you're planning to use ladders in your home for non-commercial activities, you can utilise ladders that have been certified for Non-Professional Use.

Materials

The choice of material matters when it comes to ladders. When it comes to purchasing a ladder, the first consideration is usually the material to use.

We make ladders out of aluminium, fibreglass and steel in certain circumstances, as well as wood for loft ladders, depending on the kind and design. The materials we use were chosen for their unique features, such as the fact that fibreglass is non-conductive to electricity and that aluminium does not rust or decay; therefore, have a look at our whole collection and learn why materials matter.

Unique product solutions

Select the appropriate type of ladder to assist you in completing the task safely and efficiently. Werner offers a complete line of ladders and access equipment to ensure that you can operate safely and quickly. At Werner, our most popular and recommended ladder is the 3 in one combination ladder, which is designed as a single ladder but with 3 different positional modes to cater for different work requirements. This type of ladder is a reliable choice and is incredibly safe to use when working at a height.

You may select your new ladder based on the sort of project you're working on, such as dealing with electricity or painting and decorating stairwells.
