Wall Ties
What are Wall Ties?
Wall Ties and Restraint Fixings are an essential element for ensuring that masonry panels are stable. They are manufactured in a variety of lengths and types, and are used to help restrain:
- Brickwork
- Blockwork
- Stonework
Wall Ties are not visible, and should always be used when building cavity walls, as well as in situations where there is no brick bond between the inner and outer leaves of solid brick walls.
Types of Wall Ties
Howarth Timber & Building Supplies offers a wide range of Wall Ties, including:
- HRT4 Ties. These are suitable for internal and external use, and are an essential part of house building, as they ensure that walls remain stable.
- Frame Ties. These have a pointed tip that allows them to easily pierce wood, whilst a simple twist action screws them firmly into the timber. They are used to connect timber to brickwork.
- Starter Ties. These are used to easily connect a wall that you are intending to build to an existing one, for example, if you are adding an extension to the side of your property.
- Debonding/Movement Ties. Designed to prevent vertical joints in brick walls from moving a result of strong winds. They are different to move wall ties, because they are flat, with square ends.
- Double Triangle Wall Ties. A popular type of wall tie, these are used to connect two parts of a cavity wall, securing the skin, whilst protecting it from excessive force. They can only be used in cavity walls and are not suitable for interior, separating walls.
- RT2 Ties. Used in both domestic housing and small commercial developments that do not exceed 15 metres in height. They can be used in external walls but are not suitable for internal separating walls.
