Damp Proofing
Damp proof products such as damp proof membrane and damp proof course are an integral part of many construction and landscaping projects.
What is damp proofing?
Damp proofing is a method of controlling moisture and preventing it from moving between walls and floors.
A damp proof course is designed to be waterproof and usually positioned close to the ground, within the wall, to prevent rising damp. It is a must when building property foundations. The damp proof course will help prevent moisture from rising through the structure, protecting it from damp and helping to prolong its lifespan. A good damp course will prevent the need to repair any excessive damage that damp could cause.
At Howarth Timber & Building Supplies, we offer several types of Damp Proofing, including:
Plastic DPC
Plastic Damp Proof Course has high compressive strength and a long life expectancy. Its purpose is to act as a barrier to prevent damp spreading.
High-Performance DPC
High-Performance Damp Proof Course is thinner than traditional damp-proof courses, however, this doesn’t compromise on performance. This type of DPC can also offer fire resistance.
Insulated DPC
Insulated Damp Proof Course minimises cold bridges (sometimes referred to as thermal bridges) that can occur when there is a gap in insulation.
Ventilation
Ventilation is a crucial part of any home, as allowing air to move freely helps to prevent moisture build up and therefore damp. Ventilation helps homes with existing damp problems caused by large amounts of condensation, including shower areas. Air bricks are a good option for ventilating areas between cavity walls and suspended floors.
Expansion Joints
Expansion Joints are installed between brickwork and blocks and designed to handle movement such as from heat related expansion and contraction of building materials. The Expansion Joints purpose is to stop moisture from penetrating the building, preventing the creation and spread of damp.
Remedial Solutions
Remedial Solutions are products applied to surfaces including walls, floors, and ceilings to remedy existing damp problems such as those caused by condensation.
