What is the difference between a Garden Log Cabin and a Summerhouse?
Both are garden buildings constructed from timber, but the most noticeable difference between log cabins and summerhouses is their size. In general log cabins are larger, with more space inside. The second difference is the timber that is used in garden log cabins, which is considerably thicker creating a stronger construction. Garden log cabins are usually designed for use as a permanent outdoor room that can be used all year round.
Do I need planning permission for a log cabin?
Residential log cabins will need planning permission before construction.
How much is a log cabin?
If you’re planning on building a log cabin for your garden, this could cost anything from £4,000 to £15,000 for the cabin itself, as well as £1,000 to £3,000 for labour.
How to maintain a log cabin?
To maintain a log cabin, you will need to do manual checks around twice a year. Check the logs, sealing and around the gutters. Then, at least once a year, give the outside of your log cabin a good wash, either by hand or with a hose. This is necessary to remove any cobwebs, leaves or algae that may have accumulated on its exterior. You can also clean out the gutters whilst doing this. Then, you can make sure that the walls are UV protected and that the foundation of your log cabin has a sufficient slope to promote effective drainage.
