How to choose a loft ladder

Because there are so many different types of loft ladders on the market, choosing the perfect one requires not only understanding of the dimensions, but also the consideration of quality and safety. Werner loft ladders are built to the EN14975 standard and are rigorously tested, meaning that they are incredibly reliable for a wide range of jobs involving lofts.

If you are interested in knowing which ladder would be the best for you, keep reading below to find out the four main things that will help you choose the right ladder.

Dimensions

The first step in selecting a loft ladder is to determine the size of the ladder necessary by measuring your loft area. It’s important to make sure you accurately measure the loft opening size, floor to ceiling height, floor to loft floor height, opening arc, as well as loft storage space, so you select a ladder that will fit the space you have.

Floor to loft height

The vertical distance between the completed floor and the loft floor is measured by the floor to loft floor height. You'll need to measure from the completed floor to the finished ceiling if you're considering a timber loft ladder.

Opening size

Measure the width and length of the rough opening in your ceiling. To ensure that you choose the correct loft ladder for your house, you must first determine the size of the hole you have or will build.

Clearance space

Measure the clearance arc and length behind the hatch in the loft. If you choose our timber loft ladder, the ladder is stowed inside the trapdoor. Measure the opening arc to verify the amount of space available to swing out the ladder.
